Townsend, MA- A propane tank explosion ripped through a Townsend house Saturday evening, leveling the property in a fiery blast that was heard and felt throughout the neighborhood, State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan said.

No people were in the house, located at 10 Barker Hill Rd., when the large propane tank attached to it exploded at about 5:30 p.m. Surrounding houses received minor damage, and Deputy Townsend Fire Chief David Roy said no injuries were reported.

Coan said last night that crews from his office will return Sunday to investigate. Firefighters from Townsend, Dunstable, Pepperell, Lunenburg, Ashby and Fitchburg also responded to the call.
