Holmdel, NJ – Workers were able to return to Cosmetic Essence Inc. on Tuesday, the day after carbon monoxide overcame two employees, forced an evacuation and temporarily closed the plant, police said.
Carbon monoxide levels at CEI on Route 35 returned to normal and employees were allowed back into the building as of 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to a statement released by township police.
The cause of the incident is still unknown and investigators do not know what elevated the carbon monoxide levels, according to the statement.
The CO levels in the building are being monitored by CEI management along with Holmdel Township officials, police said.
Hundreds of workers were forced to evacuate the township cosmetic plant at 4 p.m. Monday after two workers were apparently overcome by carbon monoxide and sent to a local hospital, authorities said.
The two workers were treated at Bayshore Community Hospital and released Monday night, police said.
