Westerville, OH- A Westerville mother remained in the hospital Monday after natural gas exploded in her home this weekend, according to her homeowners’ association.
Fire crews told ABC 6/FOX 28 that a furnace and hot water heater will be removed from the Edge of Village condo and tested for faulty lines. That’s after they said the utility closet filled up with natural gas and burst when the doors opened Sunday.
The mother and her two teenage sons were inside and told investigators they couldn’t smell the gas due to the smell of cleaning chemicals they had been using at the time.
“They had been cleaning an oven, so there was a prevalent smell of oven cleaner in the apartment or condominium,” said Battalion Chief Steve Martin with the Columbus Division of Fire.
The homeowners’ association said the family had only just bought the condo. The president did not know if a home inspection has been done before the sale.
