Oronoko Township, MI – A 78-year-old woman is dead and several other people required medical assistance for exposure to carbon monoxide.

Anna Bacchiocci, 78, was found dead by her son and daughter-in-law Sunday, Aug. 7, at her home near the intersection of Kephart Lane and Appian Way, according to a Berrien County Sheriff’s Office news release. Officers were sent to the home shortly after the woman’s relatives found her, and all quickly got out because police believed the air was dangerous.

Bacchiocci’s dog also was found dead inside the home.

Crews’ hazardous materials team conducted an air quality test and found high levels of carbon monoxide inside the home. Those who found the woman, including two officers and two firefighters, received treatment because of the exposure.

Police are investigating the possibility of Bacchiocci’s car accidently left running in the attached garage, the news release states.

An investigation is ongoing.
