Decatur, IL – DECATUR – Firefighters saved a man and woman Sunday evening after they were found unconscious in a house full of carbon monoxide fumes.

The alarm had been raised at 5:18 p.m. by the man’s brother after he received no response to phone calls to the house at 1640 N. Edward St. Fire crews found the couple lying on the floor in a room of the single-story house near the door and carried them outside to revive them. They were taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where an update on their condition was not available Sunday night.

A generator was found in the basement of the house that had no power and was being renovated. Firefighters said generators should never be used indoors and all homes, even when they are being renovated, must have a carbon monoxide detector.
