Nixa, MO – Three people in Nixa are recovering from carbon monoxide exposure Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at a building in the 1200 block of Ashley Drive around 4pm.Rescue crews were called to help a man who reported having chest pain. But when they started to check him over, the carbon monoxide alarm carried by the EMTs began sounding. It showed high readings in the building.

Firefighters evacuated the building and treated a total of three people for exposure to carbon monoxide. One was taken to the hospital, two others were treated and released at the scene.

An investigation by the fire department found readings of 700 parts per million which, they say, could be fatal in a few hours of exposure. They later found the source of the carbon monoxide buildup was a forklift that had been running in one part of the business.
