Seattle, WA- Washington utility regulators have filed a complaint against Puget Sound Energy related to the 2011 home explosion in north Seattle that injured two people.
The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission investigation found the likely cause was a natural gas leak. The home was destroyed and surrounding homes were damaged in the September 2011 explosion.
The commission is recommending a $400,000 fine against the company for failure to follow certain natural-gas safety rules when it responded to leaks in the neighborhood the day before the explosion.
The company has 20 calendar days to file a response.
Then the commission will set a schedule for hearing the complaint to consider whether to impose a penalty and, if so, at what amount.
The company is not allowed to pass any penalty costs to customers.
