Peoria, IL- Saturday January 20th, Peoria firefighters and paramedics were called to Jim’s Steakhouse, at 110 SW Jefferson St, for a gas explosion.

Crews found an injured worker who had been there to clean the kitchen hood system.

While preparing to clean the kitchen system, workers did not properly shut off the natural gas to the equipment. The gas build up was then lit by and undetermined source, causing a gas blow back.

One of the workers was knocked off a 6′ step ladder, and was treated by Peoria firefighters and paramedics and later transported to OSF St. Francis by AMT.

The remaining fire crews shut off the gas.

According to the Peoria Fire department, there is longer any hazard of further gas leaks.

The explosion cause an estimated $500 in damage. The event is still under investigation.
