Sioux City, IA – A Sioux City woman was hospitalized Friday night after exposure to carbon monoxide coming from a generator in her home.

Assistant Chief Dave Ahlers with Sioux City Fire Rescue said a crew was dispatched to the 2700 block of First Street around 10:30 p.m. Friday after reports of a woman feeling dizzy. Crews arrived on scene and investigated for carbon monoxide gas. Ahlers said the source of the gas was found to be a generator.

The woman was transported to Mercy Medical Center — Sioux City. Her condition is unknown.

Ahlers said he advises caution when running appliances and generators fueled with gas.

“We always recommend that you don’t start anything like a generator or appliance inside the house that runs on gasoline,” he said.
