Taymouth Township, MI – Taymouth Township resident Dave Leinau said he was at home with his wife and granddaughter when his wife noticed the hot water wasn’t working.
When Leinau went downstairs to check on the water heater, he caught a whiff of propane.
Turning away from the water heater, he said he heard the clicking noise of the appliance and was blown into the next room by an explosion.
Multiple fire departments have responded to the explosion that happened about 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at 5385 Canada, Saginaw County 911 reports.
Paul Ridga, Leinau’s neighbor, said he heard the explosion and came to the family’s aid, using fire extinguishers to put out much of a fire at the home before firefighters arrived. The family got out of the house and said they had only minor injuries and their three dogs were also found safe.

An MMR ambulance was called to check on someone at the scene, according to Saginaw County 911, and Albee Township, Birch Run and Taymouth Township responded to the call.
Consumers Energy has been called to the location, Saginaw County 911 reports.
