Naples, FL – A faulty propane system has been identified as the culprit in a July 7 explosion at a waterfront Sand Hill Court home that left one person hospitalized with serious injuries.
Joe Minervini, a detective with the Collier County office of the Florida Fire Marshal’s office, said Monday that the joint investigation between his office and the state’s Bureau of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Inspection is nearing completion, but an exact cause has not yet been identified.
It’s an accidental explosion due to the LP (liquefied petroleum) system, said Miniverni. A lot of things are damaged. It was some sort of leak in the system, but exactly what it was we, can’t tell you.
Minervini said the explosion caused damages estimated at $100,000 to the sprawling waterfront home’s lanai area, where the barbeeue grill involved in the accident was located.
Because the investigation is ongoing, the injured person’s name must remain confidential, he said.
According to Marco Fire-Rescue, an alarm for a gas explosion was received about 6:20 a.m. July 7 and upon arriving, crews found significant damage to the home from the explosion.
