Forest Grove, OR – The van, which had been converted into a recreational, exploded after a propane line leaked.
A propane leak is what caused a van in Glenwood, north of Forest Grove, to explode and damage nearby buildings, fire officials say.
Forest Grove Fire & Rescue responded Sunday morning to what was reported to be a possible house fire off of Oregon 6, 13 miles northwest of Forest Grove.
Initial dispatch reports said a shop had exploded next to a house.
Firefighter responded to the rural location, but found no evidence of a structure fire. Instead, they found a full-sized van-turned-recreation-vehicle that had exploded, but had no signs of smoke or fire.
The explosion resulted from a faulty propane line used in the van, which was destroyed in the incident.
The explosion is also said to have caused around $5,000 in damage to surrounding structures.
The impact blew out many windows and doors of nearby buildings, as well as knocking many items from inside shelves.
