Clifton, CO – A possible explosion in Clifton Monday night leads to one person being transported to the hospital.
Authorities say that person had significant burns, but the injuries are not expected to be life threatening.
At 6:10 p.m. Monday, crews got the call of a structure fire in the 100 block of 2nd street in Clifton.
Neighbors told the Clifton fire department they heard an explosion. When crews arrived on scene, they quickly put out a camper that was on fire. Authorities say the camper is a complete loss.
As the temperatures drop, fire officials say it’s important to check out the flammable things in your home.
“When people start utilizing heating systems, make sure that they are checked out.” said Chief Charles Balke of the Clifton Fire Department, “If you’re using a propane system, make sure that they’re properly hooked up [with] proper regulators;. If you’re using chimneys, make sure that they’ve been cleaned and inspected, same with you’re furnaces, make sure they’ve been inspected before you put them in use.”
A couple more people were injured in this incident but, we’re able to be treated on scene.
Chief Balke says that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Crews with the Clifton fire department, Grand Junction EMS and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
