Petersburg, PA – PETERSBURG – Two police officers emerged from a Petersburg home last Saturday carrying two people barely conscious due to exposure to carbon monoxide.

A woman in the home on the 400 block of St. Luke Street called Petersburg police at 5 a.m. Saturday, saying she believed that she and her boyfriend had been exposed to carbon monoxide.

“She was especially concerned about the other victim, who had passed out,” Petersburg police spokesperson Esther Hyatt said. Police officers Leslie Arvidson and Leslie Deluca, had to carry both occupants out of the house.

Hyatt said the woman was conscious, but did not have use of her legs while the man could not communicate with police.

The two had been overcome by carbon monoxide from a gas generator in the basement.

Just two days before, a storm had ripped through the city, causing thousands to lose power.

After officers carried the two outside, they received medical assistance from the fire department and were then transported to Southside Regional Medical Center.

“This is a good reminder at the beginning of hurricane season that whenever people hook up generators or other sources of electricity, they have to make sure that they are outside,” Hyatt said.
