Pequannock, NJ – About 150 residents at Cedar Crest Village, a senior living community, were evacuated on Thursday morning as a result of high levels of carbon monoxide at one of the buildings, officials said.

Security at Cedar Crest called local police shortly after 9 a.m. to report the readings, said Capt. Daniel Dooley, prompting a response from both the local fire and police departments, along with units from Riverdale and Pompton Lakes.

Tony Ciavolella,CQ a spokesman for Cedar Crest, said Public Service Electric & Gas were at the facility trying to find the source of the carbon monoxide and remedy the situation.

Ciavolella said the residents were evacuated to a club house on the premises and no injuries were reported.

The community is made up of 12 independent residential buildings of nearly 2,000 residents, he said. The rest of the community remained unaffected, he said, while those who were evacuated were “doing well.”

“They are enjoying lunch at this time,” he said.
