Anchorage, AK – Residents in a South Anchorage subdivision were awoken early Monday morning by Anchorage Fire Department units responding to what police call a “carbon monoxide incident” that killed one person and hospitalized seven others.
The identity of the person who died has not yet been released by authorities, however they confirmed in a Nixle statement that the residence was on Shoshoni Avenue, in a neighborhood just east of South Anchorage High School.
Seven other people were taken to the hospital as patients early Monday in connection to the apparent carbon monoxide leak. The Anchorage Police Department took the opportunity to warn others of the danger of carbon monoxide poisoning, saying it is “a deadly by product of incomplete combustion. It is a colorless and odorless gas.”
APD says this incident underscores the importance of having working carbon monoxide detectors in all homes.
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
