Omaha, NE – Police are still investigating after a 38-year old Omaha mom died from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
Katrina Diaz died Monday. Her boyfriend, Manuel Fuertes was in the house when it happened. He was released from the hospital Thursday.
“Something happened. No one should ever have to feel something like that in their house,” said Katrina’s aunt, Connie.
Katrina’s family says they don’t understand why her boyfriend didn’t have a detector in his home, where she was staying.
“He didn’t have one. Not one in that home,” said Jim Raven, Katrina’s dad.
Katrina’s brother, Daniel tells us Fuertes was heating the home with a generator after their power went out Sunday.
“Don’t put in things in your house that is going to let off toxins. Generators, very bad. It’s like putting a grill in your house,” said Daniel.
Omaha Fire Battalion chief, Scott Fitzpatrick says this is something you are not supposed to do.
“We recommend you don’t have any of that inside your house or have a generator inside when the power goes out,” said Fitzpatrick.
The family has added a page to help cover the cost of the funeral.
