Montgomery County, MD – Emergency medical units from a local Maryland jurisdiction were at the right place at the right time Friday afternoon.

Officials say, around 5 p.m. the units arrived at the Roy Rogers near the intersection of Route 29 and Old Columbia Pike in Burtonsville for a lunch break. As they entered the restaurant, officials say the carbon monoxide detectors the units were wearing started to go off. To obtain a clearer reading, they reportedly exited the restaurant and then re-entered the establishment. As they came back into the restaurant their detectors continued to go off.

The units then called additional resources from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service and notified the managers, employees, and customers inside the restaurant.

A soda machine inside the restaurant was found to have a slow carbon monoxide leak, according to officials.

Officials say 14 people were evaluated and four were transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
