Napa, CA – On Friday, firefighters responded at 11:45 a.m. to a report of a gas leak at a condominium in the 1700 block of Silverado Trail. Natural gas escaped when a valve on a deck may have been knocked open, Napa Fire Capt. Steve Becker said.

Responding firefighters detected pockets of natural gas inside and outside the residence, Becker said. PG&E, which reported the incident, turned off the gas to the unit.

No one was home at the condominium. Firefighters, who reached the owner by phone, broke into the unit to investigate the natural gas smell. Neighbors on each side of the condominium unit were evacuated out of precaution.

Firefighters determined the gas that escaped came from the valve to the outside gas line on the rear deck. The valve was turned off. Firefighters then secured the unit and left the scene at 1:40 p.m., Becker said. There were no injuries.
