Borger, TX – Residents at a Texas Panhandle apartment building that was heavily damaged by a deadly explosion say they’ve had problems for months with gas odors at the structure.

The Amarillo Globe-News reports that some of the building’s residents earlier this year reported the smells to officials with the city of Borger and Ramon Venzor, the landlord.

Venzor says he performed repair work on gas lines and denied receiving any recent complaints about odors at the complex.

Police say Saturday’s explosion at the Borger complex killed one person and injured several others.

The name of the person killed has not been released.

Borger City Manager Eddie Edwards says he was not aware of any problem being reported to the city after an August inspection of the complex.
