Moundridge, KS – A home explosion in McPherson County on Tuesday leaves a man without his home.
Homeowner Kim Krehbiel tells Eyewitness News he believes the cause of the explosion is linked to a propane line for a heater.
“I moved the heater this morning out to my shed and I went and turned the propane on in the house, and I think I forgot to turn off the valve in the house,” he said.
Krehbiel and his dog were not home at the time of the explosion.
“I’ve been there 20 years….in that house 20 years. I’m lucky I wasn’t there,” he said.
Fire investigators responded to the scene to determine the official cause.
Krehbiel says he’d been working earlier in the day to move a propane heater into his shed. And after he got a call Tuesday about what happened to his home, he says he immediately began to connect the dots about what could have caused the explosion.
Although investigators are continuing to determine a definite cause, Krehbiel wants his experience to serve as a lesson for other homeowners.
“When you do something, be careful,” he says. “When you do it with gas or electricity, be careful. I’m not trained in installing furnaces and stuff like that, but I’ve done it all my life. It’s the first time I ever had a problem.”
