Mason City, IA – No one was injured after a apparent natural gas explosion in Mason City.

It happened Thursday in the 100 block of Fifth Street Northwest.

The walls in the rear section of the house were blown out and much of the glass in the windows and doors was broken.

Neighbors said they heard a “boom” and came outside to see the damage.

The family who owns the house said it had been mainly used for storage and thankfully no one was inside.

“It was a natural gas explosion. No one was in the house, so everyone is ok. There were no injuries or anything. From what I was told, it’s safe to walk through and view it as of right now,” said Matthew O’Niell. O’Neill’s grandmother owns the house.

The exact cause of the explosion is under investigation.
