Boerne, TX – A Boerne man was left with burns over more than 80 percent of his body when his house exploded in flames Tuesday afternoon.

The explosion happened at the man’s home in the 200 block of Horse Hill in the Herff Ranch subdivision.

Aerial footage from Sky 12 showed one home leveled by the blast and at least two others damaged.

A witness said the victim’s neighbor first noticed a hissing sound coming from the victim’s gas meter. The witness said the neighbor warned the victim, then alerted City of Boerne gas officials.

The witness said the victim went back into his own home and that’s when it exploded.

The victim was taken by medical helicopter to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment. He has not been identified.

City of Boerne gas crews are beginning their work to restore natural gas service to the other homes in the area not affected by the explosion, according to a statement published on the city’s website.

Texas Railroad Commission inspectors are on the scene, along with the Boerne Fire Marshal, to investigate the cause of the explosion as soon as it is safe to enter the property.
