Village of Lime Ridge, WI – A 50-year-old man was injured Tuesday night when a propane heater he was trying to light exploded, Sauk County officials said.

Sauk County sheriff’s deputies were sent to West Maple Street in the Village of Lime Ridge around 8:05 p.m. for reports of a possible house fire or explosion, according to the release.

A 50-year-old man suffered burns to his hands, chest and face in the incident, officials said.

Investigators said the man was trying to light some sort of propane heater in the house’s basement after the pilot light had gone out.

Gas had leaked from the heater and pooled in the basement, which then ignited and exploded when he tried to light the pilot light, according to the release.

The man was taken to UW Hospital by Medflight, officials said.

The other person in the house at the time of the explosion was not injured
