LAKE OF THE WOODS, MN – A man was injured in a propane explosion at an ice house on Lake of the Woods.
Brandon Marudas, 36 of Warroad and formerly of Big Lake Minnesota was on Lake of the Woods filling propane tanks on Wednesday, January 22nd when he was injured in an explosion.
According to the Lake of the Woods County Sheriff, Gary Fish at around 3:45 p.m. Brandon Marudas was on the lake about a half-mile out from Morris’s point where he was filling fish house propane tanks when he attempted to start the heater and one of the fish houses had an explosion.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the fish house and injuring Brandon Marudas he was transported to Morris Point by a private party and was picked up there by the Lake of the Woods ambulance.
He was taken the health center in Baudette and later flown to the region’s hospital burn unit in Saint Paul.
The mother of Brandon Marudas told NewsBreak that her son suffered burns to areas of his face as well as both hands with his right hand incurring 3rd to 4th-degree burns.
The mother said Brandon Marudas’s was released from Regions Hospital on Friday, January 24th and is back home in Warroad.
Brandon Marudas hands are bandaged.
The accident remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal.
