Lockwood, MT – A Lockwood man was transported to Billings Clinic with severe burns on his legs after a propane leak caused an explosion in his camper Tuesday morning, according to the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office.

The man had woken up to the smell of propane. He shut off a gas tank outside the camper before trying to light his wood stove, Cpl. Rich Hoffman said. Propane still in the camper then ignited, causing a small explosion and extensive burns on his legs, he said.

The explosion was reported shortly before 10 a.m.

The man’s next-door neighbor, Donna Kennedy, said she called 911 to report the explosion after hearing what sounded like a large firework going off.

The man was still being treated in the hospital’s emergency room an hour later, according to a hospital spokeswoman. His condition was not immediately available.
