Richmond, IN – A leak in a gas-powered air conditioning/heating unit pumped carbon monoxide into the hallways of the Hampton Inn at about 7 a.m. Thursday.
Richmond Fire Department personnel used fans to help ventilate hallways with elevated carbon monoxide readings after Vectren had turned off the gas, according to RFD battalion chief Jeff Glenn.
Luckily, the alarm system caught it before it was a big deal, Glenn said.
Carbon monoxide was seeping into rooms, Glenn said, but no guests showed symptoms of problems from the gas or received treatment. Guests of the hotel at 455 Commerce Road gathered in the lobby while the carbon monoxide levels were returned to a normal level.
