Havelock, IA – A man and some pets were found dead Friday after a carbon monoxide leak at a home in Havelock.
The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Department identified the man as Anthony Mowry, 26, of Laurens.
According to Sheriff Brian Larsen, deputies received a report of an unresponsive man around 2:41 p.m. Friday at 758 Dean St. in Havelock.
Deputies arrived and found Mowry dead upon their arrival.
In addition to Mowry, three pets were also found dead inside the home.
Larsen said this made investigators believe it was a carbon monoxide leak that killed them.
Using a detector, rescuers determined there were high levels of carbon monoxide inside the home.
An investigation revealed that the exhaust piping for a recently-installed furnace had disconnected and was venting directly into the basement.
It’s believed the death was accidental, and no foul play is suspected.
The Havelock Fire Department, Pocahontas Ambulance and Laurens Police Department also responded to the scene.
