Kearns, UT – A family of four was rushed to the hospital Wednesday morning after barely escaping a house filled with Carbon Monoxide.

Officials say a woman woke up in her Kearns home with a severe headache. Her husband and two children began to feel sick shortly after.

When officials arrived on scene, the man was unconscious near the leak. A Questar employee found the man, and drug him to safety. The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The women and two children in the home were also taken to the hospital, but are expected to be okay.

Officials say they had never seen levels of carbon monoxide that high in a home before. Officials warn that carbon monoxide is colorless, tasteless, and odorless making it undetectable and encourage the use of carbon monoxide detectors in homes.

The family had an alarm system in their home – and officials are now trying to figure out how a system designed to protect the family failed.

Questar says the source of the leak was likely a faulty vent on a heating unit.
