Keiser, AR – A 90-year-old woman was killed and her 62-year-old son was injured when their Keiser home exploded Saturday, according to the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department.
The explosion happened around 11:15 a.m. in the 200-block of South Poplar Street.
Keiser Fire Chief Joseph Richmond said Roger Willbanks and his mother, Gladys, were in the front part of the home when it exploded.
As of Nov. 29 the cause of the fire is still being investigated. Chief Richmond said investigators would be back out on Tuesday to look at the damage.
A reporter on scene said she saw crews bring the mother’s body out of the residence at around 2:15 p.m. Fire crews said Gladys Willbanks was killed in the accident.
Roger Willbanks was flown to Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, but his condition is unknown at this time.
Fire crews worked into the night to put out hot spots.
This is the second house explosion in Mississippi county in the past week. A house in Osceola exploded on Wednesday, officials blame a natural gas leak.
