Bridgewater, NJ – A hotel was evacuated for a few hours Thursday afternoon after its carbon monoxide alarm sounded, Finderne Fire Chief Daniel Ally said.
None of the Days Inn’s 35 guests present at the time were injured but a firefighter was hospitalized after being sickened from CO exposure.
When the alarm went off around 4:30 p.m., hotel employees went door-to-door to make sure all of the rooms were cleared, said the manager, Michael Siwko.
“When the alarm went off we were able to evacuate all floors,” he said.
Ally said the hotel was ventilated as firefighters discovered that water heaters were to blame for the elevated CO. PSEG was called in to cap the heaters, Ally also said.
The guests were allowed to return to the hotel by 6:30 p.m.
The hotel was also issued a violation.
