Carlinville, IL- A home explosion has been confirmed in the 400 block of North West Street in Carlinville shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl says the explosion appears to have been caused by natural gas. Authorities are evacuating homes in a two block radius around the home.

Ameren is currently on the scene with several other local authorities and fire departments.

Two people were inside the home at the time and were taken to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. No word yet on their condition. A first responder was also injured and treated for minor injuries.

Ameren says that roughly 16 Ameren customers have their electric and natural gas shut off.
