Alcorn County, MS – One man was injured and his home on County Road 632 destroyed early Sunday morning in an explosion in the Pleasant Hill community of Alcorn County.

Jay Daniel Baker, 52, was burned, but conscious when his trailer home exploded. He told emergency personnel that he sat down in his living room at about 5:30am to light a cigarette when the explosion occurred. Caldwll says he was transported to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis with non-life-threatening injuries. Family members tell WTVA that Baker is in critical condition from his injuries.

Alcorn County Sheriff Ben Caldwell told WTVA that deputies investigated, suspecting a propane gas explosion originating in the living room of the home. They did, however, find an intact propane heater and tank, despite the complete destruction of Baker’s trailer home. State fire marshalls began their investigation Monday. That investigation is sill underway.

No word yet on Baker’s condition.
