Richard Hutson, owner of Hut’s Towing on state Highway 10 in Hamden, died probably sometime Sunday night, Sheriff Craig DuMond said.

Hutson’s death appears to be the result of an accidental poisoning related to a coal stove in his apartment at the garage, DuMond said.

Hutson, whose age wasn’t available, was “always willing to help anyone in need” and was a well-liked member of member of the community who will be missed by many residents, the sheriff said. A dog at the apartment also died, apparently from carbon-monoxide poisoning, DuMond said.

Deputies investigated the death after a call was made to authorities, according to the sheriff. Sheriff’s deputies and investigators were assisted at the scene by Delhi fire and ambulance crews and by the medical examiner’s office. DuMond said the investigation continues.
