Reno Fire says there was a small gas explosion in the basement of a home late Thursday, March 22, 2018.

They say the explosion started a fire in the basement, which caused structural damage to the home. Reno Fire says the home is now red-tagged until the proper repairs can be made. The Red Cross is working with the residents to make sure they have places to stay.

NV Energy turned off gas to area homes and tested gas levels to make sure they were safe.

Reno Fire says Eureka Avenue from E. 6th Street to E. 7th Street will be closed for most of Friday.
