Eau Claire, WI – Four people were hospitalized in Eau Claire Wednesday for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Eau Claire Fire Department.
Two children and two adults were taken by ambulance from the residence at 1423 First St. Reserve in the Shawtown neighborhood after firefighters arrived on the scene at 5:50 p.m., according to a department news release.
The adults had to be rescued from the house.
Meanwhile, the children were already outside when authorities arrived but were still taken to the hospital, the release said.
Eau Claire police also responded to the scene.
The carbon monoxide inside the house was believed to have come from a generator that was being used inside the structure.
Firefighters entered the building with protective air masks.
There were deadly amounts of carbon monoxide inside the house, the release said.
Firefighters also worked to save pets inside the house.
As of 7:19 p.m., fire crews were ventilating the house.
