Foley, AL – Park Place Apartments complex in Foley encountered a carbon-monoxide scare this week when nine residents went to the South Baldwin Regional Medical Center emergency room in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
We were notified by the ER staff at SBRMC at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday of four patients from the same apartment complex, Park Place, who had symptoms or lab results that indicated possible carbon monoxide poisoning, Foley Fire Chief Joey Darby said, explaining that the department responded to the complex immediately. And our firefighters, who are trained to the Hazardous Materials Technician level, used our gas detection and monitoring equipment to test for carbon monoxide both in and around the apartments.
However, the Foley Fire Department found to recordable or abnormal levels of the gas.
And we saw no common or obvious sources that produce carbon monoxide, Darby said.
The Foley Police Department was not contacted about the situation, although carbon monoxide had been ruled out.
We didn’t know about it, Foley Police Chief David Wilson said.
As for the nine who went to South Baldwin RMC’s emergency room?
Of the nine, one person was admitted and eight were checked and released, said Kim Neal, South Baldwin RMC director of marketing and provider relations.
Darby also said the Foley Fire Department hasn’t received any more reports of problems at Park Place or of residents going to the emergency room.
