Westmoreland County, PA – Five people suffering from possible carbon monoxide poisoning at the Murrysville Cleaners in Westmoreland County this afternoon were taken to Forbes Hospital, emergency responders said.

A person inside the building at 3945 Old William Penn Highway reported an odor of gas at 1:46 p.m., a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said.

Randy Marts, the president and a firefighter with the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company said a flue pipe connected to the boiler in the basement appeared to have caused the problem.

“The inside of the flue collapsed and there was no place for the carbon monoxide to go so it re-entered the building,” Mr. Marts said.

It did not appear anyone taken to Forbes was in critical condition, Mr. Marts said.
