Wheaton, MD – Ten people were evaluated after an apartment complex in Montgomery County was evacuated for high levels of carbon monoxide early Tuesday morning, officials said.

Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service reported the leak came from a malfunctioning water heater.

Piringer confirmed, the ten people evaluated were done as a precaution on the scene and did not require transportation to a hospital. All injuries sustained were not life-threatening.

The incident took place at the Pembridge Square Apartments in Wheaton and affected two apartment buildings around 3:45 a.m.
