Miami, FL – MIAMI –

A father and son are being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning after they left a generator running at their home, Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said.

The boy and his father were operating a generator inside a two-story duplex on Northwest 51st Street.

The father called 911 early Thursday morning.

“I think we’re carbon monoxide poisoned,” the father said. “I had to turn on the generator to make it through the night.”

The man told the dispatcher that his son was in one of the bedrooms and couldn’t walk. The son was heard groaning in the background as the father dragged him out of the house.

“Lay him flat on his back on the ground,” the dispatcher said.

“Yes ma’am,” the father said.

“Put your head to his chest. Can you hear any breathing?” the dispatcher asked.

“He’s struggling to breathe,” the father said.

When firefighters arrived, they found the father and son outside, Carroll said.

The son began to regain consciousness and was taken to a hospital, while his father was treated at the scene.

A family member at the hospital told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden that both victims are alert and are expected to make a full recovery.

Carroll said the home didn’t have any electricity, so the father and son were using a generator.
