West Seneca, NY – In the wake of a carbon monoxide poisoning in Maryland that claimed eight lives, Ken Hansen is reminding people that the tragedy can be avoided.

Hansen lost his 16-year-old daughter Amanda back in 2009, when she went to a sleepover and was overcome with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Since then, he’s founded the Amanda Hansen Foundation, and has made it his mission to help save lives.

Through his work, he has handed out thousands of CO detectors, donated furnaces and has even got Amanda’s Law passed in Albany. The law requires all new dwellings in the state to have at least one CO detector.

Hansen is now working with U.S. Senator Charles Schumer to have Amanda’s Law become a federal law.

He is also working to amend the state legislation to have it include boats and RVs.

Hansen reminds people that carbon monoxide is not just a winter problem.
