Dobbin, TX – The family of the victims injured and killed in a freak Montgomery County explosion last summer are now suing the company which just the day before re-filled the tank that supplied propane to the home.
Lena Mock Knight, 65, and her sister, Jennifer Mock, 55, died following the blast. They were inside the home along with eight-month-old Wyatt Mock Smith. He suffered second and third degree burns over more than half his body.
The suit alleges wrongful death, negligence and gross negligence on the part of Triangle B Propane. Attorneys for the family say investigators with the Railroad Commission of Texas discovered following the explosion that the Triangle B technician failed to perform a leak check after filling the tank with propane.
They also claim the Commission found that the gas supply line leading into the kitchen at the home was noticeably corroded, thin and broken.
Attorney Brant Stogner, who represents the victims’ family, says the blast likely was sparked by one of the adult victims cooking breakfast.
The lone survivor of the explosion is two-year-old Wyatt, whom friends and family have dubbed the “Miracle Baby.” The blast killed his grandmother and great-aunt. He lived, but suffered second and third degree burns over more than half of his baby.
No one from Triangle B Propane has returned our repeated calls today for comment.
