Hastings, MI – A family of five is safe after escaping carbon monoxide poisoning in their home Sunday.

The incident happened at around 12 a.m. at a house on Madison Avenue in Hastings.

Officials told 24 Hour News 8 that the family was able to make it out of the home on their own before calling police.

The Hastings Fire Department said the house did test positive for carbon monoxide, but it’s unknown what caused the deadly gas to leak inside the home.

The family is expected to be ok.
