Santa Rosa, CA- An explosion Wednesday morning sent heavy smoke and flames towering over a northwest Santa Rosa neighborhood.

No injuries were reported in the 9:15 a.m. explosion, which officials said possibly originated with a leaking natural gas meter.

Santa Rosa firefighters were able to limit the damage to the garage of the home on Tuliptree Road near Hemlock Street.

Laurie Albano and her two sons, ages 19 and 21, were awakened by the explosions, which rattled neighboring homes and brought people into the street. Albano found flames in her garage and attempted to put them out with a garden house until her older son, Craig, got her out of the residence.

The family has lived in the home for 23 years.

Santa Rosa Battalion chief Mark Basque said the gas meter outside the garage was heavily damaged and that nearby garbage and recycling bins had melted.
