Floriston, CA – A home in Floriston, California is destroyed after it exploded on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

Truckee Fire Protection District Lieutenant Nick Brown tells News 4- Fox 11 that the explosion happened around 3:30 p.m. on Spruce Street.

The explosion damaged several nearby homes, even causing structural damage in some, according to Brown.

No one was home at the time of the explosion and no injuries were reported.

Brown said he has never seen an explosion of this magnitude.

As of Thursday, Nov. 15, Brown said some residents on Spruce St. are still being allowed back into their homes due to the power being out.

He recommends that affected residents contact the Nevada County Building Department for help and to see if it is okay to return to their homes.

Another fire official on scene tells News 4-Fox 11 that all indications point to a propane blast.

Liberty Utilities issued a statement Thursday about the blast, saying — in part — that their workers had performed some upgrades to the electric distribution system in Floriston the day of the explosion.
