Lakeview, MI- Two people escaped a Vining Road home today with minor injuries after a large explosion caused a fire that destroyed the structure.
The explosion, on Vining Road near Gates Road, was reported by neighbors about 6:20 a.m.
Lakeview Fire District Deputy Chief Chris Bunker said a couple was at the home when the explosion happened. The woman was in the shower.
Fire investigators were still looking for a cause this morning to the explosion. The hot water heater is electric and the furnace and stove are served by propane, Bunker said.
Investigators were looking at whether the ignition of the water heater caused a spark that ignited gas. Bunker said the homeowner so far have not reported smelling gas prior to the explosion.
“It was a pretty strong explosion,” he said. “There is a window blown out in the front yard.”
Bunker said the injuries were limited to cuts on the male resident’s foot from shattered glass.
