Portsmouth, OH – An explosion at an apartment building in Scioto County has been ruled accidental.

The Division of State Fire Marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigation Bureau determined the cause was a natural gas leak that came in contact with an open flame, according to a press release from the department.

The fire happened about 9:45 a.m. on Friday in the 700 block of Sixth Street in Portsmouth. One woman was injured in the explosion and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The case is considered closed and is being turned over to the landlord’s insurance company.
