Chicago, IL- Three children and two adults were taken to area hospitals Saturday afternoon after they were made sick by carbon monoxide at a building in the Austin neighborhood.
Shortly before 3 p.m., firefighters responded to a 1 and 1/2 frame building in the 4900 block of West Congress Parkway for elevated CO levels, officials said.
An EMS Plan One alert was called, meaning at least five ambulances were sent to the scene.
One adult and three children were taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where they were listed in serious to critical condition. Another adult was taken in fair to serious condition to Loretto Hospital, officials said.
Firefighters were at the scene venting the building. Additional details were not immediately available.
