Easton, PA – An elderly Northampton Borough couple became sick and were taken to an area hospital in what was suspected exposure to carbon monoxide, police said.
Police Chief Ronald Morey said officers and firefighters at 6:30 p.m. Saturday were dispatched to the 2300 block of Main Street — near 23rd Street — for a report of a man and woman falling very ill.
Fire officials later found a problem with the couple’s gas furnace, Morey said.
“(We’re) not sure,” Morey said if the couple actually were exposed to carbon monoxide.
The couple were taken to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed symptoms. Morey did not know either person’s condition Monday.
Assistant Fire Chief Keith Knoblach could not immediately be reached for more information. Morey said the incident remains under investigation.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that replaces oxygen in your bloodstream and can cause serious tissue damage or death, according to the Mayo Clinic.
