Stow, OH – Dozens of people were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after a carbon monoxide leak at a Summit County bowling alley.

According to the Stow Fire Department, crews responded just after 11:30 a.m. to Sto-Kent Family Entertainment, where they found dozens of ill customers who were there for a senior citizen bowling league.

Firefighters quickly determined that the cause was CO poisoning, and evacuated the building.

Stow Fire Captain Mark Stone said nine different emergency departments transported 27 people to area hospitals. About 10-12 others refused transport at the scene.

Most of sick individuals were experiencing nausea and vomiting, and all of them were over retirement age, Stone said.

The other fire departments that responded to assist Stow crews also helped with a triage that was set up in the parking lot.
